Week 8, Part 2 – Spread the Word
A Christ Community Message
Lord, is there any lie that I am believing about the simplicity of following You?
2 Corinthians 11:3
But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
The bottom line is…Jesus is enough! We have made following Him so complex we are worn out. But the Word of God says that His ways are easy and His burdens are light. All we need to do is just simply wake up, seek Him, and the rest falls into place. Since the Lord is gentle and lowly in heart, shouldn’t we be too? For we were created in His image. But somehow, we have forgotten how to be at rest. We have forgotten how to pause and quiet our souls. We have forgotten how to keep it simple.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
Lord, teach us how to be still. Teach us how to be simple again. We need You to deprogram us so You can reprogram us. We need an overhaul of our mindset. Lord, may You reprogram us to have the mind of Christ. Form in us the simplicity of heart and mind. Shut down the systems of this world that have crept their way into our thinking, our churches, and into our homes.
And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
The simplicity of Jesus brings with it His Spirit of life. Everything else, no matter how well-meaning, brings death – death to our rest, death to our peace, death to our joy. Jesus dwelling in us is what produces the fruit of His peace, His joy, and means by which we enter His rest. Apart from Him, these fruits will not remain. Apart from Him, they will die on the vine. And the only death that is good for us is death to self, death to the flesh and its sinful desires. The sins of the flesh make life complicated and cause one to swim in a sea of misery. But the remedy is simple – look up, cry out for help, and He will rescue us from our troubles that have so easily entangled us (Hebrews 12:1). For we are made alive in Christ!
2 Corinthians 4:11
For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.
Lord Jesus, may our flesh be crucified so that Your life may be manifested in us. May our hearts be transformed to look like Your heart – simple and lowly. May we look more and more like You each day, and may the world come to know You through us who represent You, for we are Your ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20).
2 Corinthians 1:12
For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience that we conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, and more abundantly toward you.
Lord, may we conduct ourselves in simplicity of heart with godly sincerity. May everything we do and everyone we encounter see Your simplicity in us. Lord, strip off from us all the fluff, all the excess, and all the complexity. May the message that we carry be…simply Jesus!
