Week 7, Part 1 – Spread the Word

A Christ Community Message
The Excitement of Serving Jesus

Lord, what is robbing us from the excitement of serving You?

Luke 10:17-20
Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”
And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

Lord Jesus, when You sent out the seventy to proclaim that the Kingdom of God was near, they returned with great joy. They had personally experienced the power of Your Name working through them by Your Holy Spirit. Lord, You never intended Your church to experience anything less. Somehow Your church lost the power it once had. How did this happen?

Could it be that we are witnessing the Lord do a new thing in us, which is really the thing of times past? It seems like He is sending us out – out of our church buildings, out of our ministry offices, and out of our businesses to proclaim His Kingdom beyond our four walls. There is an excitement in the air about the freedom to experience ministry in a new way. There is more time to spend with the Lord in His presence in prayer, and as a result, there is greater joy in serving Him. We are beginning to witness His power in deeper ways too. We are experiencing greater intimacy, greater power, greater joy!

But Lord, many times we have gone out to establish our own kingdoms, in our own names, and in our own power. Our efforts have been to obtain glory for our own crowns instead of the glory of Your Crown. With our self-centered ambitions, we have lost the excitement to serve You as we have embraced things that self-serve and self-promote.

Forgive us, forgive us, Lord! Forgive us for practicing self-promotion, forgive us for our self-centeredness, forgive us for moving ahead of You with our own plans, forgive us for doing things our own way, and forgive us for leaving behind the One who is the author of The Plan for each and every one of us.

Jeremiah 29:11-14 (NIV)
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”

Lord Jesus, convict our hearts, move them to lament for the things we have done, and may that deep repentance bring Your mercy with great joy and power. We are ready to be made clean, we are ready to turn away from all that is selfish and powerless. With great excitement, we are ready to serve You for the glory of Your Crown. Give us the eyes to see where You are sending us today. May we be so deeply connected to You that we will move with the rhythm of Your time and seasons.

Ecclesiastes 3:1
To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven

2 Chronicles 12:32
… of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do…

May we be willing to wait on You, Lord. May You give us understanding of Your plan in this season and time. May we surrender our way and lay hold of Your ways, in Your time, by Your power, and for Your glory!

Psalm 27:14
Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord

Thank You, Jesus, for being a gracious God who abounds in mercy and gives us every opportunity to confess and repent of our sins. Thank You for Your tender mercies that are new every morning. Thank You for making our hearts clean and restoring the joy of serving You!

Isaiah 30:18
Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you;
And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
Blessed are all those who wait for Him.

Come Holy Spirit, we wait for You! Send us out for the glory of Your Crown!
